I've always been creative. I've created artwork since I was a little kid - I drew cartoons, did watercolors and pastels, I was president of the Art Club in high school.
When I started doing music, my art got put on the back burner - I still would do some pieces occasionally when the mood struck me. A long time ago I drew a color pencil and pastel drawing of my dogs Petey and Elmo, my kids loved it.
Over the last 20 years I have been a full-time songwriter and musician. I wrote the hit songs "Riding with Private Malone" and "Redneck Yacht Club." Today I'm still writing songs and tour constantly with my wife Coley.
In January of 2020, my son asked me if I could draw his current dog, Buddy. I looked through my art supplies and found maybe 4 or 5 pastels - mostly browns, black and white. I found a scrap of black construction paper. He loved it.
When the pandemic hit, and all of our shows started cancelling, I posted the pic of Buddy on Facebook and asked if anyone wanted a custom pet portrait. My inbox blew up and Forever Home Pet Pics was born.
But then I started doing artwork based on our song lyrics. I did a couple portraits relating to Key West. I went to a local art store in Sandpoint, Idaho and said, "What sells here?" They said "Moose. Bear. Elk" so I did a portrait of a moose that I call "Idaho Bull" and then a portrait of a bear silhouette with a sunrise from a photo I took at Schweitzer Ski Resort.
A rebranding and more streamlined ordering process was in order.
More art is in the works. I'm still doing custom pet portraits, which you can order via this site.
My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.
